The skin and liver together function as the two primary organs responsible for detoxifying the body. A clean liver, e.g. one that doesn’t have to process a lot of sugar and alcohol, will help alleviate the need for the skin to do much of the detoxifying work. In summary, juicing raw fruits and vegetables is a great way to assist the liver, boost skin health and introduce beneficial food enzymes into the digestive system.
Wash all vegetables and fruit before cutting up into small pieces and putting in a slow- spinning juicer.
Serves 1
Ingredients
- 2 stalks celery
- 6-to-8-inch piece of peeled burdock root (an intense blood purifier and skin super food)
- 1/2 cucumber
- 3 leaves kale, spinach or bok choy (or pak choi) (cut into 2-to-3-inch strips to feed into the machine)
- 1 or 2 large apples
Directions: Toss all the ingredients in a high-speed blender and pulse until smooth. For a deeper detoxifying effect, after making the juice add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of spirulina and stir. Serve and drink immediately.
